The Colorado Internet Cooperative is a B2B-oriented association that provides high-quality Internet Services to businesses all over the State of Colorado. Their main clients are large organizations that need high-quality internet bandwidth for their own use, and Internet Service Providers that add value and re-sell that bandwidth to consumers. Founded in 1994, the Co-op is the most well-connected and stable Internet Service Provider in Colorado. Unfortunately, their old logo was a line of three elephants, linked trunk to tail, walking along....While some said that the elephants presented an image of intelligence ("an elephant never forgets", etc...), many thought that the elephants gave the impression of being slow, ponderous, hard to move, and generally many things you don't want to associate with a company that is known for its fast network connectivity. In 2002, their board and Executive Director approached Notchcode to help them revitalize their brand. Notchcode presented a number of concepts, all of which played up the "World-Class Connections" theme of the Co-op's excellent network connectivity.
The final version, pictured here, uses a stylized "co-op" typography integrated into a circuit-like design, playing on the idea of network nodes and the connections between them. The name of the association is featured in a central, yet understated fashion, in the middle of the design. The typography, avenir medium, is friendly and approachable while still retaining a sophisticated feel. The rich orange and deep purple colors in the design brand the Co-op as a cutting-edge, lively organization that is also sensitive to its customers' needs. This brand identity was implemented in Early 2003 on their website as well as in letterhead, business cards, postcards, and a capabilities brochure. |
