The National Association of Abandoned Mine Lands (NAAMLP) advocates cleaning up old mine sites. When their logo needed cleaning up, they came to Notchcode. The old logo, a United States map showing states that participate in the Association, didn't say anything about their organizationother than the fact that it had a broad geographical membership base. The NAAMLP told Notchcode a bit about their membership, their mission, and how they help the environment, industry, and government all at the same time. They also offered their own ideas for a visual look that played off of their Asociation's acronym, which is well-known in their field.
Notchcode researched appropriate themes, colors, and typography and provided a number of design concepts, some of which are seen below. They all incorporate a lush, living green, bright gold, and deep blue. These colors represent their commitment to the land, water, and mining heritage. After reviewing a number of concepts, the NAAML decided to use a strong, all-capitals rendering of their acronym, with a sweeping ribbon form to tie the letters together. The "AML" in their acronym is highlighted in gold, bordered by green letters to each side, and a river-like swath of blue flowing through the bottom half of the logo.
